About

Chibuzo Akalonu, MD

Orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement.

Chibuzo Akalonu, MD

Chibuzo Akalonu, MD is an orthopaedic surgeon with Texas Bone and Joint who specializes in hip and knee reconstruction. Our focus is minimally invasive total hip and total knee replacement, partial (unicondylar) knee replacement, revision hip and knee surgery, and robotic-assisted joint replacement.

Born in Nigeria and raised in Garland, Texas, Chibuzo Akalonu, MD found an early calling in medicine and service. That path began at Texas Tech University, with a bachelor’s degree in biology and a minor in chemistry, and with hands-on patient care as an emergency medical technician (EMT) before medical school.

Medical school followed at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, with an MD earned in 2020. Orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson brought broad training in treating bone and joint problems, and a special interest in hip and knee care led to an adult reconstruction fellowship at Houston Methodist, affiliated with Weill Cornell Medical College.

Research and teaching have centered on hip and knee replacement, orthopaedic trauma, surgical technique, and patient outcomes, including peer-reviewed research and educational presentations. Medical mission trips to Ghana and Guatemala reflect a commitment to bringing care to communities in need.

Many people who come to see us never need surgery. When treatment is needed, we use modern techniques and technology where they help, and we build each plan around your anatomy, your condition, your lifestyle, and your goals. Together, we develop a personalized plan to manage your pain and get you back to doing the things you love.

Outside of medicine, Chibuzo Akalonu, MD enjoys reading, playing soccer, watching college football, lifting weights, traveling, and following Formula One racing.
